My name is Iyamide (Ya-Ma-Day) House. I am a business owner, licensed mental health clinician, community advocate, and mother of three PGCPS students. Education has always been a priority in my life. I am a daughter of educators,  graduated from a public high school, and went on to receive both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Johns Hopkins University. 

 

I began my career with an education nonprofit that provided behavioral support to public middle schools in Ward 7 and 8 in Washington DC. There, I created and implemented a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program (PBIS) and supervised the implementation of School Wrap-Around programs. These are evidence-based responses for at-risk youth that bring resources, school staff, and families together to help students succeed. 

 

I have trained school staff on mental health and worked with school districts to improve academic and mental health programming. My experience taught me what effective and responsive school mental health can look like. I was also a previous school counselor to upper elementary and middle school youth. There, I assisted unhoused youth, provided support to English learners, supported teachers with behavioral interventions, all while supporting the social and emotional needs of students. 

 

Currently, I own a mental health private practice where I manage the operations of a business that provides psychotherapy to our clients. As a resident of Bowie, I have been an active parent volunteer at St. Pius X Regional School, The Girl Scouts, Bowie Boys and Girls Club, and a member of Tulip Grove PTA. I am a member of Jack and Jill of America and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. 

 

Being an active member of my community has always been an important part of my life. I am truly passionate about making a difference. I believe our schools are the most important tool we have to improve the future. Our children need us to keep them safe and to ensure their access to the best education.
